When The Lights Go Out, though nostalgic in parts particularly with its blues inspired melody, captures a fresh sound and the essence of songwriting as a craft and one that will appeal to both the older and younger audience. I hadn’t come across Crybaby up to this point and I am really glad that I have had the chance to hear what this new musician has to offer the current influx of singer-songwriters ready to take on the UK market. Though it is a heartbreaking story there is also a strong optimistic feel to the track and a sense of hope being shared with the listener. Carried through a bluesy melody we are introduced to Crybaby’s smokey and drooling vocals which find a place somewhere between fellow singer-songwriters Rufus Wainwright and Ed Harcourt tonal quality.Ĭlearly a very gifted songwriter, Crybaby takes us on a melancholic journey on When The Lights Go Out that tells of letting someone special go and being able to look back on what has been shared once they have gone. Optimism would be the best word to sum up Crybaby’s new single When The Lights Go Out which is taken from the singers latest record release.
